Abstract

Warhamna, 2020. Students’ Perception on Public Speaking Program in Ma’had Al-Jami’ah IAIN Salatiga in The Academic Year 2019/2020. A Graduating Paper Submitted To The Board Of Examiners As A Partial Fulfillment Of The Requirements For The Bachelor Degree Of Sarjana Pendidikan (S.Pd). State Institute For Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga.Counselor: Aprilian Ria Adisti, M.Pd. The purpose of this writer is to know Students’ Perception on Public Speaking Program in Ma’had Al-Jami’ah IAIN Salatiga in The Academic Year 2019/2020. This research generally answered two questions: (1) What is the students’ perception on public speaking program. (2) What are strategies used by students’ in public speaking program. The methodology of the research was qualitative research. The techniques of collecting data were observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The interview consisted of 27 respondents Ma’had Al-Jami’ah IAIN Salatiga in the Academic Year 2019/2020. The results of the research show that there are negative and positive perceptions seen from the affective component that is taken from 27 respondents, 68% respondents feel happy to join public speaking program. Moreover most of the respondents have negative perceptions about the public speaking program in a conative component from 25% of 27 respondents feel that the public speaking program can not improve their English skills. Furthermore the strategies used by students are direct strategies include memory and cognitive strategies, and indirect strategies include metacognitive, affective and social strategies.
