Abstract

ABSTRACT Yuliana, Khafiyanida. 2020. “AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ABILITIES IN USING POSSESSIVE PRONOUN IN WRITING ENGLISH SENTENCES (A Case Study at the Seventh Grade Students of MTS Assalafi in the Academic Year 2019/2020)”. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Advisor: Hanung Triyoko, S.S., M.Hum., M.Ed. The research is descriptive qualitative research, especially case-study. This study is to analyze the students' ability in using possessive pronouns in their English sentences. The subject of this research was 25 students of VII A of MTS Assalafi Susukan. In collecting the data, the researcher used two instruments, documentation, and interview to support the data. The documentation was from the test result of the students. From the data result, eight students belong to poor category (range score: 35-44), three of them are low (range score: 44-54), in the average category are three students (range score: 55-64), two students in the good category (range score: 65-74), and the excellent category are nine students (range score: 75-84). The total average of students' scores is 59. So that it be can concluded that students' ability in using possessive pronouns in their writing English sentence is in the average category. Based on the interview, the students’ problem in using possessive pronoun are students didn’t understand clearly about Possessive Pronoun, still confused, students using the adjective pronoun, instead of possessive pronoun. Based on the the interview result, the students mention their strategies to cope with their problem such as do more exercises, explore the material more, ask their friends, and pay more attention.
