Abstract
The objectives of this research are to find the patterns and the implementation of the patterns of question and answer to strengthen self-regulated learner in second semester International Class Program of IAIN Salatiga. This research generally answers two questions as: (1) How do the patterns of question and answer use in instructional design at second semester ICP of IAIN Salatiga? and (2) How do the question and answer patterns use in instructional design to strengthen self-regulated learners in second semester ICP of IAIN Salatiga? The methodology of this research was analytical qualitative approach which the writer analysed the data from the conducted research with several theory. The technique of collecting data was observation, interviews, and documents. The writer found from the conducted research that there is a pattern of question and answer; Initiation-Reply-Evaluation. The data consists of 94 patterns of question and answer; directive sequence 9 frequencies, informative sequence 31 frequencies, and elicitation sequence 54 frequencies. There are no similarity form and content on directive that strengthen self-regulated learner. The patterns of question and answer to strengthen self-regulated learner found in informative is caused by the similarities of form and content of the participant to explain or notice, and the elicitation is caused by the similarities of elicitation order in both question and answer that correspond the element of self-regulated learner in the instructional process.
