Abstract

The objectives of the study are (1) To find the types of slang words theory that produced by Game Community in Comments of Shroud's YouTube Channel and (2) To find the functions of slang words that used in Comments of Shroud's YouTube Channel. There are 100 data that have been successfully analyzed by the researcher. The methodology of this research was qualitative research and the data was analyzed conducted in this study, where the source of the data is the word from social media. The instrument of this research is documentation. The data taken on September 2020. The research consisted of five steps, they were; reading, selecting, classifying, analyzing, and describing. To identify the types of slang words and functions of using slang words used by Game Community on Comments of Shroud's YouTube Channel, the researcher used theory of Allan and Burridge (2006). While, the researcher also used manual and online to find the meaning of slang language. The researcher found five types of slang words in the comments. They were Fresh and Creative, Flippant, Imitative, Acronym, and Clipping. There are 12 Fresh and Creative, 7 Flippant, 15 Imitative, 37 Acronym, and 29 Clipping. The researcher also found the functions of slang word. From seven functions, only five of them are discovered in the comments. there are 9 slang words which have function to address, 57 slang words which have function to initiate relax conversation, 22 slang words which have function to show impression, 6 slang words which have function to humiliate, and 6 slang words which have function to reveal anger. The researcher didn’t find any utterances on the data which indicates as to show intimacy and to form intimate atmosphere. So, the most dominant types of slang words is Acronym. While, the most dominant function of using slang words is to initiate relax conversation.
