Abstract

Dewanti, Sashanti Maya. 2020. A Lexical Analysis of Tok Pisin Language in the Written Form of Youtube Comments. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Noor Malihah, M.Hum., Ph.D. Tok Pisin is one of the languages from Papua New Guinean. It is a creole language. The research was aimed to analyze lexically Tok Pisin language found in YouTube comments. The objectives of this research were (1) to find out the lexical meaning of Tok Pisin language written found in the YouTube comments, (2) to prove the similarities between Tok Pisin written language and standard English words written found in the YouTube comments. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach to reach the objectives. The data sources used are primary and secondary data from several videos on the selected YouTube channel. While the researcher also used manual and online to describe the meaning of Tok Pisin language. The researcher used Sugiyono’s method to collect the data. After completing the data analysis, the researcher revealed that the similarities of Tok Pisin language with English. There are 27 are categorized as a verb, 24 are categorized as a noun, 10 are categorized as an adjective, 7 are categorized as an adverb, and 5 are categorized as a pronoun. Most of the Tok Pisin words are come from English. Keywords: Sociolinguistic, Creole, Tok Pisin, YouTube comments.
