Abstract

Dewi, Iin Azidna. 2021. “AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ERROR IN USING SIMPLE PAST TENSE BASED ON COMMUNICATIVE EFFECT TAXONOMY IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT OF TENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ SMK DHARMA LESTARI IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021”. A Graduating Paper. English Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institue for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Faizal Risdianto, S.S., M.Hum. The purpose of this research is to know the errors types, and the dominant errors made by students in using simple past tense in writing narrative text based on communicative effect taxonomy. In this research, the researcher used a qualitative method. This research was conducted at SMK Dharma Lestari. The data was collected from students writing tasks of the tenth grade. The students were asked to write a narrative text that used the formula from simple past tense. The instrument of the research was test and documentation. The result of this research presented that there are 2 types of error, they were global error and local error. There are the following categories of global error it is the wrong order of major constituent, missing wrong misplaced sentence connectors, missing cues to signal obligatory exceptions to pervasive syntactic rules, and regularization of pervasive syntactic rules to exceptions. In the local errors in noun and verb inflections, error in an article, error in auxiliary, and error in the formation of the quantifier. The dominant error is local errors which the researcher found the total percentage of 58.97% or the number achieved of 25 errors. Most of the students' made errors in using inflections. In the global error, the researcher found the percentage of 15.38% or the number achieved of 6 errors. In these errors, many students misplaced the sentence connector. Keywords: Error, Narrative text, Simple Past Tense,Writing.
