Abstract

ABSTRACT Pujiani, Indah. 2020. The Correlation between Vocabulary Mastery and Their Comprehension in Reading Text (The study of the third semester of State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga in the academic year 2019/2020). A Graduating Paper submitted to the board of examiners as a partial fulfillment of the requirements for the bachelor degree of Sarjana Pendidikan (S.Pd.) State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Aprilian Ria Adisti, M.Pd. The purpose of this research is to know the correlation between vocabulary mastery and their comprehension in reading text (the correlation study of the third semester of students’ of State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga in the academic year 2019/2020). This research generally answered two questions: (1) Is there a correlation students’ vocabulary mastery and their comprehension in reading text of the third semester of students’ English Education Department. (2) Is there a significant correlation between students’ of vocabulary mastery and their comprehension in reading text of the third semester of students’ English Education Department. The methodology of this study was quantitative research. The population of this research is 168 students’ and the writer take sample to this study is 60 students’. Data is collected through vocabulary test and reading test. The questionnaire was conducted online via WhatsApp and Google-Forms. There is positive correlation result of showing rxy = 0.522. Level coefficient correlation 0.522 of strength is categorized moderate and direction correlation is positive or unidirectional. There is a significant correlation result of showing rsig.2-tailed can be compared with a scale of significance, this is rsig.value 0.05. Rsig.2-tailed = 0.000 < 0.05 rsig.value. Because, rsig.2-tailed lower than rsig.value it meant there is significant correlation. So, the correlation between vocabulary mastery and their comprehension in reading text at the third semester of students’ English Education Department in the academic year 2019/2020 is moderate, positive or unidirectional, and significant. The more vocabulary students have, the better their reading comprehension. Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Reading Comprehension.
