Abstract

The Analysis Of Language Ambiguity On Whatsapp Chatting (A Study At The First Semester Students’ Whatsapp Personal Chatting Of English Education Department Of IAIN Salatiga In Academic Year 2020/2021). A Graduating Paper. English Education Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Advisor: Hammam, M.PD., Ph.D. This study discusses language ambiguity in WhatsApp chat application. This study aims to determine the types and how the first semester students interpret the language ambiguity contained in personal Whatsapp chats. The methodology used in this research is qualitative. The data source was the chat with 20 students of IAIN Salatiga on the Whatsapp application. Researchers collected data by asking chat transcripts in the form of screenshots and voice notes. To analyze the data, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method and then summarized the findings. Researchers found one type of ambiguity, namely lexical ambiguity. Of the 20 existing data, all data only give rise to two different perceptions. Keywords: Ambiguity, Whatsapp
