ABSTRACT Monica, Agnes. 2020.An Error Analysis of Simple Present Tense in Writing Explanation Text Written By The Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga in Academic 2020/2021. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Counselor: Sari Famularsih, S.Pd.I., M.A. Keywords:Error Analysis, Simple Present Tense, Writing, Explanation Text The purpose of this research is to know about writing explanation text, to identify the students’ errors in using simple present tense in writing explanation text and to find out the dominant errors made by the students in using simple present tense in writing explanation text. The subjects were the eleventh grade students from class XI IPA of SMA Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga. To collect the data are use test and documentation. In this research use qualitative research is a means for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem. The findings of the research are found that there were 133 items with the most error is omission errors with a total of 53 items. The conclusion of the research are: The errors made by students in using simple present tense in writing explanation text at the eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga is (1) The first errors type was omission with 53 errors items and the percentage was 39.85%, (2) the second errors type was misinformation with 51 errors items and the percentage 38.35%, (3) the third errors type was addition with 29 errors items and the percentage 21.80%, and (4) errors in misordering was 0.00%. The dominant errors made by the students in using simple present tense in writing explanation text at the eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga is error of omission with 53 errors items and the percentage was 39.85%.
