Abstract

ABSTRACT Azmi Zumairah. 2020. The use of Pop Songs to the Mastery of Listening Skills (Pre-Experimental Research at the tenth-grade students of MAN 2 Klaten academic years 2020/2021). A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies of Salatiga. Counselor: Dr.Ruwandi,S.Pd.,M.A. The purpose of this research is to find out the difference in listening skill mastery before and after taught using pop songs. This research methodology was Pre-Experimental research. The population of this research is the tenth-grader of MAN 2 Klaten that consisted of 250 students. The sample was 27 students selected using a random sampling technique. The techniques of collecting data used test, there were two tests in this research pre-test and post-test. The test consisted of 20 fill in the blank and 10 multiple-choice questions. The data were analyzed using T-test formulas by comparing pre-test and post-test. At the end of this study, the researcher took the conclusion as follows: (1) The difference in listening skills before and after using pop songs existed the average score was 61 the highest score was 80, and the lowest score was 40. the average score of students after using pop music was 74 with the highest score was 100, and the lowest score was 50. There is a difference Ma (61) <Mb (74), it showed that the teaching and learning activity by using pop songs is effective to increase listening skills. (2) Paired samples test result (2-tiled) ) is 0.00, less than 0.05 (0.00 <0.05). The statistical results show that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. There is a significant difference between Ttes (7.634)> Ttable (1.705). It shows that the Ttest is at the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and thus the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. which means that the null hypothesis proposed by the researcher is a significant difference and is accepted.
