Abstract

ABSTRACT Hoirini, Nurul. 2021. An Analysis Of Inflectional Affixes On English Department Students' graduating paper abstracts of IAIN Salatiga Along the Year 2016-2019 (A Study of English Alumni of Education Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty in the Academic Year of 2016 -2019). A Graduating Paper. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. English Education Department. State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counsellor: Faizal Risdianto, S.S., M.Hum. This research aimed to explore what types of inflectional affixes found and which one type of inflectional affixes that were dominantly used in students’ writing. The objectives of the study are (1) To find the types of inflectional affixes on English Department students' graduating paper abstracts of IAIN Salatiga made by English Alumni of Education Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty in the Academic Year of 2016 - 2019. (2) To find the reason why the English Department students' graduating paper abstracts of IAIN Salatiga use the type of inflectional affixes. The object of this study was 25 alumni research paper abstracts. The findings of this research are following: There were 4 type Nouns (plural), Verbals (present: V1, past: V2 regular and V3 perfect/ passive voice), Adjectives (comparative/ superlative, Possessives (singular/ plural) : -’s, -s’, –ed, –s, -es, –er, –est, –th. The student uses inflective morphs to denote whether a word is singular or plural, whether it is past tense or not, and whether it is a comparative or possessive form. In fact, inflection occurs in many languages, but there is very little inflection in English compared to other languages in the world. The results of this research can be considerations for the teacher about the importance of inflectional affixes knowledge for their students’ writing skills. Therefore, it should be taught in detail.
