Abstract

Pradini, Mita Ardania. 2021. An Analysis of conversational maxims found in Curriculum Of Material Development (CMD) online class through WhatsApp Group at 5th Semester Students of English Education Department. A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training, and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Hanung Triyoko, S.S., M.Hum., M.Ed. The researcher analyzed conversational maxims found in Curriculum of Material Development Online Class at 5th-semester students of the English Education Department. The problems of study are (1) What types of conversational maxims are applied in the Curriculum of material development online class through WhatsApp Group? (2) What conversational maxims that violate and obey conversational maxim by students and lecturer in Curriculum of Material Development online class through WhatsApp Group? This research is conducted from October until December 2020. The research method is qualitative research. The researcher used observation and documentation as a data collection technique. As a form of observation, the researcher joined the WhatsApp Group of CMD Class to obtain the data. As a form of documentation the source of data taken from students and lecturers in Curriculum of Material Development Online Class through WhatsApp Group. The researcher limited the study only to 5th-semester students of the English Education Department. In the obedience of conversational maxims, the researcher found 27 maxim of quantity, 5 maxim of quality, 3 maxim of relation, and 2 maxim of manner. It can be concluded that quantity maxim is mostly applied in the online conversations between students and lecturer in this research. In violation of maxim, the researcher found 0 violations of quantity maxim, 3 violation of relation maxim, 1 violation of manner maxim, and 0 violations of quality maxim.
