Abstract

The objectives of the study are to find out the significant effect of gender stereotypes toward English learning achievement of 6th semester of the English Education Department students at IAIN Salatiga.The researcher had done the try out of the research in 4th semester of the English Education Department students at IAIN Salatiga before the writer did this research in 6th semester of the English Education Department students at IAIN Salatiga on April 7th-12th 2021. The methodology of the study is quantitative correlation study. The techniques of collecting data that the writer uses are questionnaire and documentation. The techniques of data analysis in this study are classic assumption and hypothesis test. The writer finds: 1) The student’s gender stereotypes of the English Education Department students at IAIN Salatiga. There are 8 students or about 14% have high gender stereotype level, 31 students or 54.3% have medium gender stereotype level, and 18 students or 31% have low gender stereotype level. It shows that the subject as an educated group has broader knowledge and perspective, proving that they respect the opposite sex and support gender equality. 2) There is a negative significant effect of gender stereotype toward English learning achievement. It is proved by the significance value that shows 0.019 < 0.05 and the tcount<-ttable where -2.416 < -2.004. The R square shows 0.008, so gender stereotypes affect English learning achievement by 8%.
