Abstract

The purpose of this research is knowing the students’ perceptions and motivations for choosing program study of English education department in IAIN Salatiga.This study aims to describe the perceptions and motivation of students in choosing study programs in the English department. This is a descriptive qualitative study with a sample size of 44 students. Data were collected through a questionnaire. The results showed that students' perceptions of the study program in the Language Department were considered good. Students' perceptions of the quality of study programs, learning facilities, study programs, and graduates are already good. However, students 'perceptions of parents' directions and friends who took the same major were still low. The students' motivation in choosing a study program in the Language Department fits one of the categories. Things that motivate them in choosing a study program in the Language Department include: the desire to develop it interests and talents, aspirations to become a teacher, fast desiregetting a job after graduation, the ability to compete with other college graduates, trust in the knowledge learned can be the foundation of life atin the future, IAIN's status as a University, teacher certification, lecturers who teach have good quality Keywords: Perception, Motivation, English Education Department……………
