Abstract

ABSTRACT Finandhita, Septia Aulia. 2021. The Correlation Between Students’ Self-Confidence and Fourth Semester Students’ Writing Achievement in Academic Year 2020/2021. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Setia Rini, M.Pd. The purpose of this study is to see if there is a correlation between students' self-confidence and sudents’ writing achievement in fourth semester English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga students in the academic year 2020/2021. Quantitative correlative research was used as the research methodology. The research was conducted at the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga's English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty. The participants were fourth-semester students of English Education Department In the academic year 2020/2021. The sample consisted of 25 students from E class who were chosen using random sampling technique. The data was collected using a self-confidence questionnaire and a written test to assess students' writing achievement. The data was analyzed and interpreted using a quantitative process in SPSS v24 by the writer. The study's findings revealed that students' self-confidence was categorized as fairly confident. The highest score is 98, the lowest is 58, and the mean is 77.16. Then, the result of fourth semester students’ writing achievement was categorized as good. The highest score is 90, the lowest is 49, and the mean score was 70.24. However, the result of Pearson correlation count of the student’s self-confidence and students’ writing achievement showed that the value of count is less than r table 0.017 < r_t (0,05)=0.396 and the result of the coefficient significance is higher than r table (sig. (2-tailed) 0.935 > r_t (0,05)=0.396. The coefficient correlation can be concluded to be not significant. It means that there is no significant correlation between student's self-confidence and their writing achievement. In the research, the writer came to the conclusion that Ho was accepted and Ha was rejected. Key words: Correlation, Self-confidence, Writing Achievement.
