Abstract

This study aims to investigate Teachers’ methods and to find out the most effective method in teaching TOEFL in International Class Program of IAIN Salatiga. Generally, this study has two main research questions such as (1) what are teacher’ methods in teaching TOEFL in International Class Program? (2) which is the most effective method in teaching TOEFL in International Class Program? This study applied qualitative research method. The techniques of collecting data were through documentation based on teachers’ journals in teaching TOEFL and questionnaire and interview to explore teachers’ experience during teaching TOEFL in ICP of IAIN Salatiga. The researcher found there were ten methods that applied by the teachers who taught TOEFL in ICP. The methods are such as Synchronous and Asynchronous Method, Autonomous Learner Method, Drill and Practice Method, Error Analysis Method, Games Based Learning Method, Inquiry-Based Instruction Method, Questions & Answers Method, Mind Mapping Method, and Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Method. The most effective method in teaching TOEFL is Drill and Practice Method, and Discussion Method. All teachers prepared the class very well. They used various sources or references, material, media, and teaching methods. Teachers who taught TOEFL in ICP are capable and competent in their major.
