Abstract
The objectives of the study are to know the students’ speaking anxiety level, to know the students’ speaking achievement at the eighth grade, and to find out whether there is any correlation between the students’ speaking anxiety level and students’ speaking achievement at the eighth grade students of MTs Ma’arif 2 Grabag in the academic year 2020/2021. The method of research was quantitative research especially correlative study. The techniques of collecting data were questionnaire to find out the students’ speaking anxiety level and students’ transcription score to find out the students’ speaking achievement. The researcher found that there were 37 students or 94.87% of students who are qualified for moderate to severe anxiety and 2 students or 5.12% of students who are classified into moderate anxiety when speaking. Moreover, in the calculation of students speaking skill, the researcher found that there were 3 students or 7.69% of students with good score, 26 students or 66.66% of students with fair score, 8 students or 20.51% of students with poor score, and 2 students or 5.12% of students with very poor score. From the correlation calculation, the researcher found that there is any correlation between students’ speaking anxiety level and students’ speaking achievement. The correlation result is 0.856. These correlation results show that there is any correlation of variable X and variable Y. Because rxy is higher than rtable for the value of significance 5% is 0.325. It means that there is moderate significant correlation between students’ speaking anxiety level and students’ speaking achievement at the eighth grade students of MTs Ma’arif 2 Grabag in the academic year 2020/2021. So, Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted and H0 (null hypothesis) is rejected. Key Words: Speaking Anxiety, Speaking Skill.
