Abstract
The objectives of this study are to determine the students' difficulties in writing biography text from a gender perspective, to find out the factors which make students feel difficult to write biography text, and to determine the teacher’s problem solving to minimize the difficulties in writing, especially in biography text. This research was conducted at Vocational High School (SMK) of Pancasila in academic year 2020/2021. The total of students is 25 students, consisting of 14 female students, and 11 male students. This research was conducted in May 27th-June 12th, 2021. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The technique of collecting data was taken from the results of student writing, questionnaire distribution, and interview with the English teacher. The result of this study shows that the difficulties in writing biography text faced by female class students and male class students are grammar, mechanics, lexical, and content and organization. The factors that cause these difficulties are internal factors and external factors. Furthermore, the problem solving from the teacher to minimize the difficulties is using Donkey Bridge or deductive method. Meanwhile, to overcome the problem of limited facilities and the quality of learning, the teacher maximizes the manual method.
