Abstract

The objectives of the study are to find out An Analysis of Teachers’ Difficulties in Implementing Online Teaching and Teachers’ Efforts in Finding the Solutions in Teaching English during Covid-19 pandemic at The Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Ambarawa in the Academic Year 2020/2021. This study aims to 1) English teachers’ difficulties in online teaching; 2) The creativities to solve the difficulties; 3) The factors that support and resist the creativity of online teaching. The methodology of research was qualitative research. The data collection techniques in this study are observation, interview, and documentation. The results of the study show that (1) The English teachers’ difficulties in online teaching there are: some students are not present when learning online, unstable signal of internet access, students are late in submitting assignments, and teachers cannot supervise students optimally. (2) The creativities to solve the difficulties with giving motivation to students in the form of WhatsApp Group chat, allowed doing homework at school, and sending assignments via WhatsApp. (3) The factors that support and resist the creativity of online teaching there are: supporting factors is schools provide facilities to support the implementation of online learning such as Wi-Fi, computers, and classroom. Resisting factors is the obstacle faced by teachers in online teaching at SMP Negeri 1 Ambarawa is the low motivation of students in participating in online learning. While the obstacle for students is internet access which is still minimal, making it difficult for them to participate in online learning.
