Abstract

This paper informs us about method in teaching reading text (descriptive text) in the tenth grade of vocational school. It provides a method and this application of the method in the classroom. The subject of this research is the tenth grade of SMK Terpadu Al-Huda Petak Susukan. The writer collects the data in several ways such as, observation, and test. Both of observation and test are applied in both teachers and students of class X A of SMK Terpadu Al-Huda Petak Susukan. Moreover, test is applied for students through certain method of learning. It determines how is the profile of students’ mastery reading comprehension before implementation of discovery based learning method and how effective is discovery based learning method to improve students’ reading comprehension. This method applied with quantum teaching approach. The mean score of students’ pre-test is 27,27. Then, the mean score students’ post-test 1 after applied the method in teaching learning is 64,54. It proved that discovery based learning method can improve students’ interest in reading comprehension. The mean score students’ post-test 2 is 73,86. It means that discovery based learning method is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension. Based on this data, it can conclude that discovery based learning method is effective to improve students`reading comprehension.
