Abstract
This research aims to find out the most dominant type of anxiety that students experienced in TOEFL test and also its causative factors based on the students, as the test- takers, experienced before and during the TOEFL test. The method used in this research is qualitative research. Questionnaire and interview were used to gather the data. The participants of this research were 25 students of the Faculty of Economic and Islamic Business of IAIN Salatiga. The researcher used qualitative data analyzing technique to analyze the data. The result showed that 44% answer indicated that students felt the psychological anxiety symptoms, 36% for the physical anxiety symptoms, and 20% answers for the behavioral anxiety symptoms. The result also showed that there are several factors that cause students anxiety, those are: the faculty’s obligation which requires TOEFL test as one of the requirements for the thesis defense and 400 score is the minimum score to get for passing the test, the lack of the English skills and competencies that students have, the online test monitoring systems, their difficulty to focus and concentrate while doing the test, the lack of preparation, the limited time given, blank mind that suddenly can happen, and they thoughts about the test.
