Abstract

Counselor: Norwanto, M.Hum., Ph.D. Keywords: preposition of time, error analysis, descriptive text The objectives of the research were to know the types of errors in using preposition of time in,on and at, to know the dominant errors made by the students and to know the causes of error made by the eighth grade students of Mts Al Manar in the academic year 2020/2021. The research used adescriptive qualitative methodology. The data collection strategies used in the study were put to test. The errors were collected, identified and classified based on surface strategy taxonomy by Dulay that devided into omission, addition, misformation and misordering. The eighth grade students of MTs Al Manar in the academic year 2020/2021 were used as data sources in the research. The sample of the data consisted of 11 students at the VIII A class. The result showed that the most dominant errors was misformation (71,42%). The second errors made by students was omission (14,29%), the third errors made by students was misordering (9,52%) and the lowest freqquency of errors was addition (4,76%). The causes of errors were interlingual transfer and intralingual transfer.
