Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out the difficulties faced by teacher difficulties in implementing problem based learning in reading class at SMP Islam Sudirman 1 Bancak in the academic year 2021/2022. The researcher sees the improvement students’ reading skill based on interview with teacher and some students’. The type of this research is qualitative research using triangulation data to prove how far the credibility of the data. It used observation, interview, and documentation for data collecting techniques. The result of the research show that (1) the difficulties faced by a teacher is when students’ think that English is not important, the lacking of vocabulary, the lazy to open a dictionary, and the lazy to practice. Those are gave impact to teaching and learning process. (2) The used of problem based learning teacher used some steps. The steps that he used in class are: the first, teacher told students to practice reading in class and asked what difficulties they are facing, the second analyzing solutions together. The third gave homework to read and then record. The last is shown to the teacher. The result used of Problem Based learning show it can improve students’ reading skill.
