Abstract

This research was conducted at MTs SA Al Mina Bandungan, focused on the use of ESA (engage, study, active) method to teach students‟ vocabulary. The objectives of this research were; (1) To find out and analyze the difference of vocabulary mastery of the eight grade students of MTs SA Al Mina Bandungan before and after they were taught using ESA method. (2) To know the significant difference of the eight grade students of MTs SA Al Mina Bandungan‟s vocabulary mastery before and after they were taught using ESA method. The methodology of the research is pre-experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. The subjects were the eighth grade students of MTs SA Al Mina Bandungan with total number of sample was 23 students. The data were collected through test which is pre-test and post-test and documentation. The data was analyzed using paired sample t-test. The result indicated that there is the difference vocabulary mastery before and after they were taught using ESA method. It is proven with the improvement of mean score, the pre-test mean score is 66.09 lower than the post-test score is 79.57. Based on the statistical analysis the t-test value higher than t-table (4.937 > 2.074). It means that there is significant difference of the vocabulary mastery before and after they were taught using ESA method. Therefore, it concluded that using ESA method was proven to teach student‟s vocabulary of the eight grade students of MTs SA Al Mina Bandungan.
