Abstract

The research is about the improvement of students’ daily activity vocabulary by using flashcards at eight grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Salatiga in the academic year 2021/ 2022/. The objectives of the research are (1) To know how is the implementation of flashcards in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Salatiga in the academic year 2021/2022. (2) To figure out how is the result of using flashcards in improving students’ vocabulary mastery as seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Salatiga in the academic year 2021/2022. The research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, there were two cycles and every cycles consists of four steps; planning, action, observing, and reflection. The technique of data collections were observational checklist, test, and documentation. The subject of the research was VIII G class of SMP Negeri 4 Salatiga, the class was consisted of 30 students. The minimum passing grade of English lesson in SMP Negeri 4 Salatiga was 75. The result of the research shows that the use of flashcards can successfully improve students’ daily activity vocabulary mastery at eight grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Salatiga in the Academic Year 2021/ 2022. There was improvement of students’ result from cycle I to cycle II. The mean of the post-test in cycle I was 68,66 and the percentage of minimum passing grade was 40%, then in Cycle II the result was improved, the mean of the post-test was 83,83 and the percentage of minimum passing grade was 93,3%. The result of the t-test in cycle I was 7,719 and in cycle II was 8,226 which higher than the t-table 2,045. It means that the use of flashcards significantly can improve students’ daily activity vocabulary mastery. The students also gave positive respond after the teacher taught using flashcards. They felt enjoy and flashcards can help them memorized vocabulary easily.
