Abstract

This research aimed to reveal the types of English learning styles that mostly students’ used at Kampung Bahasa of Edi Mancoro Islamic Boarding School and to analyze the teachers’ strategies in teaching English. This research was descriptive research that employed a qualitative approach to analyze the data. The numbers of participants were 34 first-year students and 2 English teachers of Edi Mancoro Islamic Boarding School. The primary data was collected by distributing the printout VARK questionnaires and doing interviews. The questionnaires are used to find out the students’ learning styles and the interviews are used to find out the teachers’ strategies in teaching English. The result of this research showed that the students’ learning styles preferences were Visual, Auditory, Read/write, and Kinesthetic. In this research, the Auditory was the type of learning style most widely used by the students. It was found 38.23% or 13 of the total 34 students. Based on the findings also concluded that several strategies had been implemented by teachers/tutors those are singing, conversation, practicing English speech, and master of ceremonies. The researcher considers that these strategies are appropriate to be applied in the English teaching-learning process.
