Abstract

The intentions of the research are: (1) To realize the implementation of Genre Based Approach to develop students’ writing skills of the eighth-grade students of MTs Yaspi Pakis in the academic year 2021/2022. (2) To find out does the implementation of Genre Based Approach develop students’ writing abilities of the eighth-grade students’ of MTs Yaspi Pakis in the academic year 2021/2022 or not. Classroom Action Research (CAR) is the research methodology used in this study. The study was divided into two cycles, each cycle had four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The participants in this study were 23 students from 8B of MTs Yaspi Pakis. In the cycle I, the mean of the pre-test was 44.13, and the mean of the post-test was 55. 65. In cycle II, the mean score of pre-test was 59.78, and the mean score of post- test was 75.43. The goal is for 85% of the pupils in the class to meet the required writing skills. 17.39% of students passing the cycle I post-test received a passing grade. The students in cycle I do not achieve the goal. As a result, 86.95 percent of students can pass the passing grade on the post-test of cycle II. The implementation of Scientific Approach using picture series successfully improved the students’ writing skills on the recount text of eighth- grade students of MTs Yaspi Pakis in the academic year 2021/ 2022.
