Abstract
This study aims to find out the effectiveness of the jigsaw method in improving student’s ability in writing narrative text in class XI of MAN Seluma Bengkulu. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a population of 62 students in class XI IPS MAN Seluma Bengkulu. Two classes were taken as sample classes, namely class XI IPS 1 as the control class and class XI IPS 2 as the experimental class. The researcher was done using a non-random sampling technique to take the samples. Data analysis in this study used the t-test formula. Based on the results of the t-test analysis, obtained tcount = 11.1326661 > ttable = 2.042, then H0 is rejected, which means that there are significant differences in students' narrative text writing abilities taught by the jigsaw method and lecturer method. Then continued with the N-gain test to know the level of the effectiveness of the jigsaw method in improving student’s ability in writing narrative text, which obtained N-Gain test value in experiment class is 0.73706 > N-Gain test value in control class is 0.2531, it can be concluded that the jigsaw method is an effective used as a method in improving student’s ability in writing narrative text in the class XI of MAN Seluma Bengkulu. The effectiveness of the jigsaw method is evidenced by an increase in the results of the ability to write narrative text in the class XI MAN Seluma Bengkulu.
