Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative research is to explore nd understand the styles and factors of academic procrastination in writing graduating paper of 8th-semester students of English Education Department of IAIN Salatiga. At this stage of the research, the academic procrastination will be generally defined as delaying academic assignment namely graduating paper. The data was collected by observation, questionnaire, and interview. The observation conducted as preliminary research to determine the qualified participants. While the questionnaire used to find out the styles of academic procrastination and the interview to find out the factors in conducting cademic procrastination in writing graduating paper and also to support the questionnaire result with deeper information and exploration. This research uses qualitative method. The result shows that there are 3 academic procrastination styles among the 5 participants based on the questionnaire result. These 3 styles namely Dreamer procrastinator, Worrier procrastinator, and Overdoer procrastinator. One participant has 2 styles and clasified as chronic procrastinator. The interview conducted to get deeper information and more completed data to find out the factors in conducting academic procrastination in writing graduating paper. The result showed that there are 3 main factors in conducting academic procrastination in this research. These 3 factors are self-efficacy, task aversiveness, and supervisor's role.
