Abstract

ABSTRACT Nursaputri. E. (2022). The Use Of Elsa Speak Application to Improve English Speaking Skill (A Classroom Action Research among the Eight Grade Students of SMP Islam Ar-Rahmah Suruh in the Academic Year 2022/2023). A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Muhamad Hasbi, M.A. Keywords: Speaking; Elsa Speak Application. The aims of this study were: (1) To determine the application of Elsa Speak application media to improve English speaking skills of eighth grade students of Ar-Rahmah Suruh Islamic Junior High School; (2) To find out the extent to which the improvement in English speaking skills of eighth grade students of SMP ArRahmah Suruh after using the Elsa Speak app. The number of subjects in this study was an 1 English teacher and 15 grade VIII students of SMP Ar-Rahmah Suruh. The methodology of this research is Classroom Action Research. Data from this study were collected using qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data obtained by researchers through photos and observation checklists. Meanwhile, quantitative data were obtained by comparing the post-test results with the average pre-test results. In the first cycle the pre-test value was 53.93 and the post-test value was 62.47. While in the second cycle, the pre-test score was 61.67 and the post-test score was 74.87. Then the results of statistical calculations show that the t-test in the second cycle is greater than the t-test in the first cycle, namely 7,665 in the t-test in the second cycle and 5,502 in the t-test in the first cycle. The significant effect on students' English speaking ability from cycle I to cycle II is 46.66%. From the explanation of these results, the researcher can conclude that the use of the Elsa Speak application can improve the English speaking ability of eighth grade students of SMP Islam Ar-Rahmah Suruh.
