Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate how students perceive the use of Google Meet in phonetics class. Then, this study also investigates the benefits of using Google Meet in phonetic class as perceived by students. The subjects of this study were second-year students majoring in English Education Department of IAIN Salatiga. The subjects included 23 male and female students, as well as 9 interviewees. This research is descriptive qualitative. The researcher utilized questionnaires and interviews in gathering information and data from respondents. Data from the questionnaire were collected online using Jotform.com while the interviews were conducted in two ways, offline by meeting at campus and online via WhatsApp. According to the findings of this study, the research discovered that the majority of students have positive perceptions of learning phonetics through the Google Meet application. They argued that Google Meet is helpful to use in phonetic class. Then, using Google Meet can improve students’ enthusiasm in learning phonetics. In addition, using Google Meet in learning phonetics makes the material explanation from teacher clear. Furthermore, the benefits of using Google Meet in phonetics learning is making students easy to understand phonetic materials. This also can get direct feedback from lecturer about their pronunciation practice and can improve students’ pronunciation skills in learning phonetics.
