Abstract
This research has purpose to know about what factors causing reading anxiety from eighth grade students of SMP N 3 Suruh and finding out how to face their reading anxiety problem with some strategies. The researcher uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. Participants were selected purposively. Ten students who showed anxiety when displaying reading mastery were chosen as respondents. Researchers collect respondent information by using class observations and interviews.The results of this study indicate that unknown vocabulary is the highest factor causing anxiety in displaying reading mastery. They are then followed by factors of fear of making mistakes, worry about the reading effects, unfamiliar culture, and unfamiliar topic. from the five strategies to overcome anxiety. Students only use three strategies. Preparation is the most widely used strategy by students to overcome anxiety, followed by positive thinking and relaxation. None of the students used peer seeking and resignation strategies to deal with anxiety.
