Abstract

The purposes of this study are (a) To find the difficulties that students have when studying English during Online Learning in Rural Junior High School at MTs Ma’arif Candimulyo, (b) To know the solutions offered by the English teacher to overcome the problems faced by students in studying English during Online Learning in Rural Junior High School at MTs Ma’arif Candimulyo. This research is Qualitative Research. The researcher chooses the descriptive qualitative research method to conduct the data of this research. The data were collected from questionnaires and interviews. The results of this research are (1) The difficulties experienced by the majority of seventh, eighth, and ninth grade rural junior high school students are about the internal and external problems of the students. Internal problems such as lazy and bored to take online classes, difficulty concentrating, difficulty understanding the material, and feeling uncomfortable during learning. External problems experienced by the majority of students are poor signal quality, students who do not have smartphones, and limited facilities owned by students. (2) The English teacher at MTs Ma'arif Candimulyo has a limited solutions and only focuses on giving assignments. Strategies in learning in class and during online learning can also be categorized as minimal.
