Abstract

The aims of this research are (1) to find out the student’s writing ability for the second year students of SMK PGRI 1 Salatiga. (2) To describe the use of picture pair work to increase the students’ writing ability and (3) to identify the improvement and the result of student’s writing abilty through picture and pair work for the second year students of SMK PGRI 1 Salatiga. The research method that is used in this research is classroom action research. The subjects of the research were 35 students in second grade at SMK PGRI 1 Salatiga. The researcher uses two cycles; each cycle consists of planning, action, observation and reflection. The result of her resarch shows that there is an improvement of students’ writing ability using picture and pair work. It can be seen from T-Test calculation in cycle 1 is 11.03 and cycle 2 is 16.85. And also the increasing percentage of the test from cycle 1 to cycle 2 with standardized score (the minimum of passing criteria) is 70, at the cycle 1 is 22.85 % students and 85.71 % in cycle 2 who pass in oral test. This indicates theusing picture and pair work can increase the students’ writing ability.
