Abstract

Tyas, Arfisian Helmiyana Luming. 2022. The Correlation Between Students’ Interest and Their Achievement in Learning English Using WhatsApp Group at the Seventh Grade Students of MTs N 10 Ngawi in the Academic Year 2021/2022. The objectives of this research are to find out how is the students’ interest in learning English using WhatsApp group, how is the students’ achievement in learning English using WhatsApp group, and the significance of correlation between students’ interest and their achievement in learning English using WhatsApp group at the seventh grade students of MTs N 10 Ngawi in the academic year 2021/2022. The method of this research was correlation quantitative research. The populations of this research were 157 students and the samples of this research were 31 students. The technique of collecting data were questionnaire to find out the students’ interest and documentation to know the students’ achievement. The writer finds that the level of students’ interest and students’ achievement in learning English using WhatsApp is at the moderate level. The writer also finds that there is a significant correlation between students’ interest and their achievement in learning English using WhatsApp group. The result of calculating correlation showing r_xy = 0.429, which means r_xy > r_t (0.355) with the significance level 5%. So, the correlation between students’ interest and their achievement in learning English using WhatsApp group is in moderate correlation and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected.
