Abstract

This study aims to find out 1) whether or not there is any significant correlation between emotional intelligence and self-directed learning readiness in learning English; 2) the significant correlation between self-regulation and self-directed learning readiness in learning English; and 3) the significant correlation between emotional intelligence and self-regulation towards self-directed learning readiness in learning English of the second semester students of English education department UIN Salatiga. This type of research used quantitative correlational research. The participants were second-semester students of the English Education Department of UIN Salatiga, which consisted of 50 students as the sample using a random sampling technique. While the method of collecting the primary data was through questionnaires and documentation. Then, the data were analyzed using statistical analysis using the SPSS version 25 application program with correlation Pearson product moment. Based upon the calculation of the data, the researcher found that 1) there is a positive and significant correlation between emotional intelligence and self-directed learning readiness with r value greater than r table, r= 0.444 > 0.279 and Sig 2-tailed 0.001 < 0.05; 2) there is a positive and significant correlation between self-regulation and self-directed learning readiness with r value greater than r table, r= 0.560 > 0.279 and Sig 2-tailed 0.000 < 0.05; and 3) there is a positive and significant correlation between emotional intelligence, self-regulation and self-directed learning readiness with r value greater than r table, r= 0.677 > 0.279 and Sig. F change 0.000 < 0.05. So, in conclusion, all null hypotheses are rejected, and all alternative hypotheses are accepted.
