Counselor: Miftachudin, S.Pd.I., M.A. This research is purposed to investigate the students’ challenges and strategies of English Education Department students in writing graduating paper at IAIN Salatiga. Generally, this research has two main questions: (1) What are challenges of English Education Department students in writing graduating paper? (2) What are strategies of English Education Department students to cope the challenges in writing graduating paper? This research was qualitative research. The subjects of this research were ten English Department students batch 2015 who have finished their graduating paper. Interviews were used to collect the data. The data was analyzed and interpreted through qualitative research procedure. The findings indicate that most of students have challenges during finishing their graduating paper and they had their own strategies to overcome it. Their challenges are such as challenges in deciding the topic, having low motivation, problem in gaining the data, facing financial problem, having anxiety, trouble in paraphrasing sentences, and having problem with supervisor. In overcoming the challenges, students used their logic to choose specific alternatives. Overall, the students applied a variety of strategies such as visiting library and searching for as many references as possible, working closely with schools, supervisor, and colleagues, doing part time job, sharing with friends, using a paraphrasing website or application, remembering parents, and maintaining communication with supervisor.
