Abstract

ABSTRACT Masfuah, Kholishotul. 2022. An Analysis on the Use of Code-Mixing on Instagram Comment by Student of English Education Department of IAIN Salatiga. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teaching Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies of Salatiga. Counselor: Hammam, M.Pd., Ph.D. This research aims to find the form and the function of code-mixing used by students’ English education department IAIN Salatiga on Instagram Comment. The researcher uses a qualitative method. The techniques of collecting data were questionnaire and documentation. Then the researcher analyzes the comment of the students of English education department IAIN Salatiga on Instagram. The result of the study shows that 47 unit data of code-mixing used by students of English Education Department IAIN Salatiga on Instagram comment. Furthermore, data analysis of code-mixing performed 34 insertion of word, 7 insertion of phrase, 3 insertion of hybrid, and 1 insertion of clause. Based on the data, the students of English education department IAIN Salatiga commonly used insertion of word to mix the code. Then, from 47 data analyses of code-mixing, the researcher found five functions of code mixing used by students English education department IAIN Salatiga on Instagram comment. They are 6 addressee specification, 1 repetition, 1 message qualification, 7 personalization and objectivization, and 10 facility expression. The function most commonly used by students of English education department IAIN Salatiga on Instagram comment is facility expressions. Keywords: Analysis, Code-mixing, Instagram
