Abstract

Hidayah, Nur. 2021. An Analysis of Student’s Difficulties in Speaking at Eleventh Grade Students of SMK Karya Nugraha Boyolali in the Academic Year 2020/2021. Graduating Paper English Education Department of State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Nur Muthmainnah, M.Pd. This research is about An Analysis of Student’s Difficulties in Speaking at the Eleventh Grade Students of SMK Karya Nugraha Boyolali in the Academic Year 2020/2021. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research. The researcher chose 37 students of the Computer Engineering Program in SMK Karya Nugraha Boyolali as the sample. The researcher used qualitative research method. In collecting data the researcher used questionnaire and interview. For the data analysis technique, the researcher used data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. This research is aimed to answer the following problem (1) What are the problems that make students difficult in English speaking, (2) What are the factors that caused the students’ difficulties in English speaking, (3) What strategies do the students use to overcome the difficulties in speaking. Based on the analysis of the data, pronunciation, lack of vocabulary, students' comprehension are the most common problems faced by students in English speaking. Continued with factors that caused students' difficulties when speaking such as the use of mother tongue, feel afraid, and shyness. Then the students' strategies to overcome their disabilities are trying to be more confident, preparing some notes then memorized them before speaking, and learn speaking from non-academic stuff, likely movies, articles, video reviews, songs, games, etc. Keywords: Speaking, Difficulties, Problem, Strategy
