Abstract

M. Khoir Nur Ihsan. 2022. An Analysis of Derivational Suffixes in Students’ Essay Written by the Sixth Semester of English Education Department Students at IAIN Salatiga. A graduating paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies of Salatiga. Counselor: Mr. Norwanto, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D.. The aim of this research is to determine students' mastery of the types and functions of derivational suffixes seen in written text. This study is a descriptive qualitative research. The data taken for this study is collected from the worksheet of the written text of the sixth semester. Identifying the derivational text by functions and rooting the words. This study demonstrates that affixes have a significant impact on and contribute to the expansion of vocabulary. Affixes, when applied to a root word, can alter its grammatical category and meaning. If an affix is added before, in the middle, or after the root word, the category of the part of speech will change. Thus, the prefix plays an important function in the linguistic framework.
