Abstract

This action research aims (1) to find out of the use of photographand pair work can improve the students writing skills of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 6 Salatiga in Academic Year 2016/2017 (2) to know the improvement the students writing skillsof the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 6 Salatiga in Academic Year 2016/2017. The methodology of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). To improve the students writing skill, by employing the photograph and pair work in the teaching learning.The reseacher has undertaken two cycles to give students more opportunity to improve their understanding. The participated in this research was 28 students, of class VIIIF of SMP Negeri 6 Salatiga. In completing the research, the researcher used observation sheet, documentation, and written text as the instruments of collecting data. The observation during the process of English teaching and learning was conducted by the observer.The result of this research showed that the implementation of the photograph and pair work is satisfying based on the observation sheet there was improvement. It showed from the mean score of pre-test and post-test. In cycle I, post-test was higher than pre-test: 69.83<72,89, and in cycle II, post-test was higher than pre-test: 70.39<73.92. It was also proved by the score of t-test from cycle I (3.11) was lower than t-tes cycle II (5.35). It means the photograph and pair work improve the students’ writing skill.
