Abstract

The purposes of this research were (1) To know the students' vocabulary mastery before and after taught using Duolingo and Student Worksheet at the seventh grade of MTs Salafiyah Mrisi in the academic year 2021/2022, (2) To know difference of students’ vocabulary mastery after taught using Duolingo application and Student Worksheet at the seventh grade of MTs Salafiyah Mrisi in the academic year 2021/2022, and (3)To know if Duolingo more effective to teach vocabulary mastery than using Student Worksheet at the seventh grade of MTs Salafiyah Mrisi in the academic year 2021/2022. This was a quantitative research. The method of this study was quasi-experimental study. The population of this study was the seventh grade of MTs Salafiyah Mrisi. The sample consist 40 students. The findings of this research were (1) There was different effectiveness between experimental and control groups after Duolingo and student worksheet were applied. However, based on the result of mean, the average score in the post- test of the experimental class is 80, while the average score of the post-test in the control class is 74, (2) The result of paired sample T-test shown that the result of t (df = 38) = 2.990 and p-value or sig (2-tailed) is 0.005 which is lower than α = 0.05 (5%), and the result of the post-test from the experimental and controlled class, it can be inferred that the t0 (2.990) is higher than the t-table (1.672) in the significance level of α = 0.05 (5%). There is difference in the students’ vocabulary mastery who are taught using Duolingo and worksheet. and (3) There is a difference in the mean scores of post-test, the experimental class had a higher average score than the control class (80 > 74). This shows that the use of duolingo application to teach vocabulary mastery is more effective than the use of student worksheets. As a result, the researcher can conclude that the answer of research question is proven: The duolingo application is more efficient than student worksheets in developing students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade students of MTs Salafiyah Mrisi.
