Abstract

Auliya, Mutiara Firda. 2022. An Analysis of Students’ Perception on the Implementation of the Grammar Translation Method (GTM) to Teach Writing Skills of MTs Miftahul Ulum Sugihmanik In the Academic Year 2021/2022. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teach Training and ducation Faculty. The State Islamic University Of Salatiga. Counselor: Dra. Widyastuti, M.Pd. This graduating paper was focused on investigating grammar translation method implemented by students in learning English. Researcher used descriptive qualitative method in conducting the research. Questionnaire and interview are carried out in order to collecting information. Observation had been carried out in 2021/2022 Academic year. The researcher observed the implementation of the Grammar Translation Method to teach writing skill. In order to reducing bias, researcher interviewed the students. The interview consisted questions to find how can the Grammar Translation Method help students to improve writing skill. The findings reveal that implementation the Grammar translation Method in writing skill. In the implementation Grammar Translation Method, the teacher used four techniques ofnine techniques in the grammar translation method. The techniques implemented by the teacher are Translation of a Literary Passage, Reading Comprehension Questions, Deductive Application Rules and Memorization. In implementing the technique, the teacher used all technique in once meeting, but a few meetings, the teacher used three techniques. The teachers implemented the GMT procedure appropriate with theory, but there are two techniques of GMT that were not implemented by the teacher. The teacher used this method because it helps students understand the lessons easily and through this method students can develop many English skills, they are translation, grammar, reading and writing.
