Abstract

Putri, Elvina Amalia. 2022. An Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Writing Recount Text At the Eighth Grade Students of MTs Miftahul Ulum Sugihmanik in the Academic Year 2021/2022. This study aims to find out the difficulties of class VIII students at MTs Miftahul Ulum Sugihmanik for the academic year 2021/2022 in recount text based on general structure, language features of the text and students' difficulties in writing recount text. The method in this research is qualitative research. Techniques in data collection used are tests and interviews. The test given is in the form of a recount text writing test by respondents to determine the difficulties to write recount text based on its general structure and language features. And the interview includes 3 questions about the difficulties in writing recount text. From the results of the study, the researchers found that the ability of the eighth grade students of MTs Miftahul Ulum Sugihmanik for the academic year 2021/2022 was quite well in recount text based on the generic structure and the good at writing linguistic elements. And the difficulties they faced when writing generic structures, in the orientation part they were confused and could not write with the "where" element because of limited vocabulary mastery and lack of understanding of the generic structure of the text, on reorientation, difficulty in closing the story and writing comments and personal opinion about the events. And on language features they have difficulty in adjusting past tense when converting to V2, confused about differentiating regular and irregular verbs. On the adjectives, they did not know how to use them and have difficulty inserting adjective elements in a text. And in adjusting conjunctions because of their lack of knowledge about various conjunctions.
