Abstract

This study aimed to describe the use of Student-Centered Learning by the lecturer as a solution to students' diverse backgrounds and levels in the Sharia Faculty of UIN Salatiga, especially in the Constitutional Law (HTN) department. Based on initial data, HTN students have various backgrounds, ranging from pesantren graduates to Vocational High School alumni, and some even come from Equivalency Program (Paket C). This, of course, makes the class heterogeneous and requires special methods and strategies. This research was qualitative descriptive, with data collection using observations and interviews. The findings indicated that the lecturer uses the student-centered learning method in learning because this method can increase student activity in the classroom and allow them to work together so that the gap between them is reduced. The strategies used by lecturers in learning are 1). Dividing students into groups to enable cooperation between them; 2). Increasing their activity by giving assignments; 3). Providing contextual material that relates to law. Keywords: English for Law, Student-centered learning, students background
