Abstract

By performing communication through a text, transfering information between the writer and the reader hap-pen in a written form. Writing a good text in EFL (English for Foreign Language) context contributes tremen-dously to enhance the students’ writing skill for delivering their idea to others through written text. Nowa-days, writing such a good text through electronic mail (email) is also important to be mastered. Writing an email, especially academic email gives different nuances to students when it comes to attach their own files. Furthermore, in this pandemic era, communication in electronic form dominates over the conventional com-munication. Therefore, this study aims to find out the generic structure of students writing and pedagogical implications in teaching how to write an academic email. By using the theory of email structure proposed by Chapman (2007), this study used 40 academic emails written and sent by the students. Applying qualitative method, the data was collected, read, and analyzed by the researcher. Keywords: email literacy, email structure, higher education’s students, EFL
