Abstract

English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University of Salatiga. Counselor: Faizal Risdianto, S.S., M. Hum This research was conducted at MTs. Shirathul Ulum Pati. The aims of this research are: (1) To find out and analyze the difference of simple present tense mastery of the eight grade students of MTs Shiratul Ulum before and after they were taught by using game-based learning. (2) To find out the significant difference of the eighth-grade students of MTs Shiratul Ulum’s simple present tense mastery before and after they were taught by using game-based learning. This study used a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test as a method of research. The participants in this study were 31 students of eighth-grade students of MTs. Shirathul Ulum Pati. The data was gathered through the use of tests, both pre-and post-test, and also documentation. The pre-test is performed before treatment, while the post-test is performed following treatment. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 29. According to the findings of this study, there are significant differences in students' mastery of grammar before and after being taught using game-based learning. It can be seen from the improvement of the mean score of the pre-test and post-test. The post-test mean score is higher than the pre-test mean score. The pre-test mean score is 56.94, while the post-test mean score is 79.52. It went up to 39.65%. The significant difference in students' grammar mastery can be seen from the T-test result. The significance value (sig-2-tailed) is 0.000, which is less than 0.05. It shows that there is a significant difference in students' grammar mastery before and after they were taught by using game-based learning at eighth-grade students of MTs. Shirathul Ulum Pati.
