Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) To find out the results of learning to write descriptive text using visual media (photograph) in grade X students of SMA N 1 KLEGO in the 2022/2023 academic year. (2) To find out the effectiveness of the use of visual media (photograph) in teaching writing descriptive texts to grade X students of SMA N 1 KLEGO in the academic year 2022/2023. The method used is pre-experimental research. The population of this study were students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Klego. The number of samples is 35 students. The instrument used in this study is a test namely the pre-test and posttest, and Observation Sheet in the form of a checklist according to what will be studied and all necessary data recording. The researcher found that there were differences in students' writing results in writing descriptive text before using visual media (photograph) and after using visual media (photograph). Student results before using visual media (photograph) can be seen in the pre-test results while for student results after using visual media (photograph) can be seen in the post-test. The student pre-test average was 57.34, and the student post-test average increased to 77.60. other than that, from the results of the calculation of the T test on the data, the sig.(2-tailed) value shows 0.00 <0.05. From the T-test, the research shows that the value of the T-test (9.108) is greater than the T-table (2.032) with degrees of freedom (df) = 34. This means that there is a significant difference. Therefore, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, it can be concluded that the use of visual media (photographs) in the learning process in the current “kurikulum merdeka” can improve students' writing skills in writing descriptive texts. And visual media (photographs) are very effectively used as Learning Media in the teaching and learning process because children become creative and enthusiastic in learning. visual media (photograph) can also improve student learning outcomes.
