Abstract

The study aims to improve speaking skill using Team Games Tournament (TGT) method at the seventh grade of SMPN 04 Ambarawa in the academic year 2022/2023. The objectives of this research are (1) to know the implementation of the Team Games Tournament learning method to improve speaking skill of grade seventh students at SMPN 04 Ambarawa for the 2022/2023 academic year and (2) To find out the Improvement of the Students’ speaking skill for seventh grade students of SMPN 04 Ambarawa in the Academic Year 2022/2023. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was used as the research method. There were two cycles, each cycle had four steps: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques included observation checklists, tests, and documentation. The implementation of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) to improve the speaking skill of grade seventh at SMPN 04 Ambarawa for the 2022/2023 academic year were done in two cycles the result of the research showed that the implementation of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) method was successful. Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning method can improve speaking skill significantly for seventh grade students. Furthermore, it can be seen from students who received the minimum passing grade improved significantly from cycle I to cycle II. Each pre-test and post-test cycle performed better from cycle I to cycle II. The students who got scores higher than the minimum passing grade in the pretest of cycle I were 20,83% and in the post-test of cycle I were 33,33%. While in the cycle II, the students who passed the minimum passing grade were 54,17% in the pre-test and in the post test were 83,33%. In cycle I, the mean increases from 59,79 to 68,11, while in cycle II, the mean rises from 70,20 to 77.08. It is possible to conclude that the implementation of Team Games Tournament (TGT) proved that it could significantly improve speaking skill.
