Abstract

The aims of this study are: (1) to find out the difference between students’ writing on recount text before and after using picture series media. (2) to find out whether picture series media is effective in teaching writing on recount text or not. The research uses a quantitative method especially a pre-experimental study that only involves one experimental class without a comparison group. In this study, data were collected using tests to find out the students’ writing scores in the pre-test and post-test. The researcher finds there is a different result of students writing in recount text before using picture series and after using picture series. The students’ results before using the picture series can be seen in the result of the pre-test while the student's results after using the picture series can be seen in the result of the post-test score. The average of the student's pre-test is 68, increasing to 75 the average of the student's post-test. These results showed an increase of 7 points. Besides, from the results, the calculation of the t-test on the data obtained the value of sig. (2-tailed) shows 0.00 < 0.05, which means that there is a significant difference between the initial and final results of students. Meanwhile, from the calculation results, it was obtained that t-count = 10.333 > t-table = 2.074, with (dk) = 22, and a significant level of 5%: 2 = 2.5% (0.025). From the results of these calculations, the researcher concludes that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. In other words, the use of picture series is effective for teaching writing on recount text. It means that picture series can be used as a medium for learning to write recount text at school.
